Score!

 Still 80% mock-up and 10% bugs, Mr Tickles Space Adventure has made a bit of progress. We now have some opportunity to score points which helps with playtesting ideas.

As currently designed:

  • Idle: 
    • you start out idle with obstacle graphics floating around harmlessly
  • Engage Warp: 
    • press A to engage warp drive; this costs some points
  • Navigate Hypertube Space:
    • to move you'll need to generate energy by running in your wheel (spin the crank!)
    • while warp is engaged you'll see stars zoom by. that's your warning to be careful not to touch any of those previously harmless obstacles
    • hyperspace is made of tubes, and the more tube parts you touch the better. touching tubes parts lights them up and scores you 1 point per tube part
    • touch ALL the tube parts for a big bonus!
    • stay in hypertube space long enoug for all the tubes to exit the left side of the screen for another big bonus!
    • Crashing into any obstacle costs you points and drops you out of hypertube space
  • HUD (hamster universal display):
    • top left: current score and most recently earned bonus
    • top right: current energy reserves (battery and capacitor)
    • bottom: 
      • while idle: indicates the cost of entering hypertube space (warp) and once there the cost for crashing into any obstacles
      • while in hypertube space: indicates your progress through this current maze like jump

It's currently a little heavy for the real playdate hardware... i might have some debug text printing to the serial port still, i don't recall. optimizations are needed before more features can be added, that's for sure. Below GIF is recorded from the simulator.
